Abstract

The researcher directed the current study to identify differences in Mental Hardiness according to patterns of self-esteem among players of some individual sports activities. The descriptive approach was used, and the research sample consisted of (210) athletes from players of individual sports activities (judo, karate, taekwondo). (70) Players for each sporting activity under study. A measure of Mental Hardiness was built for players in individual sporting activities and a measure of self-esteem patterns was used as research tools. After verifying the psychometric conditions of the research tools, the Mental Hardiness scale became valid for use in its final form, consisting of (49) statements distributed over five dimensions: (challenge, control, concentration, confidence, and commitment). The research tools were applied to the primary research sample (n=150). It was concluded that there are statistically significant differences between the average scores of the dimensions of the Mental Hardiness scale (challenge, confidence) and the total score of the scale according to the types of self-esteem among players of individual sports activities, and that all significant differences are in favor of players distinguished by the third type. There are also statistically significant differences between the average scores of the dimensions of the Mental Hardiness scale (control, concentration, commitment) according to the types of self-esteem among players in individual sports activities, and that all significant differences are in favor of players characterized by the fourth type.
